The clothes that you wear, simple it may seem, has to be just right for your body. This way you can accentuate your assets and downplay your problem areas.
The very first thing would be for you to determine your body shape. Are you a pear with narrow shoulders but with wide hips? Can you be classified as an apple whose appear body is a bit broader with a narrower lower body? Are you a rectangle with very small difference in measurements from the upper to middle to lower body? Or can you be considered as having an hourglass figure like Betty Boop or Barbie?
If you have a pear-shaped figure, you had better stay away from clothes which bring attention to your hips. Instead get one with flattering necklines to draw attention to that and not your hips. In choosing a skirt, a better choice would be an A-line one while pants with flares or boot cut are make the grade because it balance your thick hips.
Those with apple figures should make sure that there is a balance to make the body look longer and leaner. Too many ruffles or flounces should be avoided. Those with rectangular figures should make an effort in creating an illusion of having a smaller waistline.
Your clothes need not be very costly nor very trendy. What may look good on another person may not necessarily look good on you. One general rule though which is applicable to all types of figures is that the clothes should fit well. It should not be too tight nor too loose. It has to be just right.
